This is the best instrument available for checking the actual thickness of the packing under the press blanket and plate after they have been mounted. Although the packing and blanket thickness may have been accurately measured by a thickness guage before mounting on the press, the packing will often crush after a few thousand impressions and the blanket to plate pressure will be incorrect. The error must be determinned and corrected on the press to assure high quality prinitng.
